The Athletic is a 5-star product! The app is not quite all the way there cons: It can be a little hard to find what you were reading or listening to if the app closes, and it would be nice if you could slow down the podcast play speed without speeding it up first (you have to cycle through the speeds). pros: top-knotch, high-quality content, with no ads if you pay for a subscription. I follow the NBA specifically and the coverage is really really good

The app functions very well and is easy to navigate. There are only two things that keep if from being five stars for me. One is that it's difficult at times to find articles with multiple authors in the byline. The second is that I wish there were a 'listen to article' feature, like the NYT app has. EDIT: I wish notifications telling me someone replied to my comment took me to the article they responded under, or at least told me which article it was. Right now it just takes me to my account.

I am unlikely to re-subscribe after my trial membership because I don't use it much: articles are too long (I have other things to read for my job). What would make all the difference for me is a built-in TTS reader so that I can consume Athletic articles when I'm doing other things, such as doing the dishes. An ePub reader I have used for over a decade, Cool Reader, has one that works well enough.
